The Challenge

Why this initiative is important?

Europe is facing a critical shortage in its healthcare workforce, putting future patient care at risk. For cancer care—highlighted in Europe's Beating Cancer Plan—a strong and sustainable medical workforce is essential. Nuclear Medicine is no exception, and the urgency to act is clear.

Challenge illustration

Workforce crisis

A significant portion of the healthcare workforce is nearing retirement, including 21% of nuclear medicine professionals expected to retire within five years.

Impact on cancer care

Advanced treatments like nuclear medicine are vital for cancer care. Shortages in qualified professionals directly threaten access to life-saving therapies.

EANM’s strategic response

To secure the future of the field, EANM launched INSPIRE—a long-term initiative focused on education, recruitment, and growing professional interest in nuclear medicine across Europe.
